Gum Care

Gum disease is one of the leading causes of dental failure and can lead to a variety of drastic solutions (like full dentures). We treat and can help you manage gum disease to help you keep your own teeth and a healthy smile!

The longer that bacteria hang out on your teeth, the more chances inflammation or gingivitis can occur. Those bacteria create acid that can eat away at your gums and eventually lead to tooth loss.

Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease. It can cause redness, swelling and bleeding of the gums. The great news is that gum disease can usually be prevented with regular homecare and routine scheduled cleanings at our office.

There are 3 simple steps to proper gum care:

Flossing
Flossing is the single more imporant thing you can do to keep your gums in good health. Flossing helps you get rid of stubborn food particles that may get stuck between your teeth and that your tooth brush may not be able to reach. Floss comes in many different shapes and forms. We will be more than happy to help you find whats right for you!

Brushing your gums
Just as you would brush your teeth, use a circular motion to brush over your gums to remove any acids or food particles that may be sticking to them. There may be debris that can’t be see to the naked eye and brushing your gums will help remove that debris.

Scheduled Cleanings
Make sure to come in and visit us on a regular basis. It is suggested to schedule a cleaning every six months to make sure your mouth is at it’s best. If gum care is detected early, we can help you decide the best treatment plan and prevent it from spreading.
